Athens City CentreThe center of Athens in recent years has been increasingly changing to the better. A nice way to explore the Center of Athens is to get off at the Acropolis metro and from there on foot to cross the Plaka and through its scenic narrow streets to end up in Syntagma Square. Syntagma Square is located directly across from the Greek Parliament. Its current name was taken from the Revolution of the September 3rd 1843, by which the King Othonas was forced to grant a constitution to Greeks. From Syntagma Square heading down Stadiou street you can pass by the Old Parliament, the current National History Museum. If you follow Panepistimiou street you will pass in front of the excellent architecture Nomismatokopeio museum and of the three buildings located opposite the Korai Square, the Academy of Athens, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the National Library. After you have reached Omonia square you can follow Patision street and find the National Archeological museum. From Syntagma square visitors can also reach easily Ermou street the most commercial district of the city featuring lifestyle shops with international and local clothing brands.
