The Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is best known from the period of the Golden Age of Pericles in the 5th century BC, the hill of Acropolis  was inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC. The world  famous Parthenon, was built by the famous architects Iktinos and Kallikratis.  Below the Acropolis is the theater of Herod Atticus, which is still used for performances of classical concerts, ancient tragedies, ballets etc. Visitors can also admire the theater of Dionysious, the rock of Areopagos, which was the place of operation of Athenian judiciary and the Ancient Market. Directly across from the Acropolis the new museum hosts the remaining monuments and other important historical foundlings.
